Curtains

Curtains for arbors, terraces and verandas

In the country or in a private house, you can often watch open verandas, where the family spends time with family and friends, organizes pleasant leisure. The roof helps to shelter from the sun or rain, which allows you to enjoy nature, fresh air in almost any weather. For comfortable conditions and coziness, they resort to such a design element of interior decoration as curtains for the veranda, which not only decorates the room, but also can protect it from various adverse environmental factors.

By appointment

You can create comfortable conditions inside the veranda or arbors with different types of curtains. Their functional features are protection from the sun, wind, rain and insects. In addition, certain types of curtains are used to preserve heat indoors, which makes it possible to exploit the space in autumn or winter.

During a summer holiday, during the day, you want to hide from the sun and hot air, which carries dust, pollen and can provoke an allergy. Of course, the glazing of the veranda will be a good choice, but there are cheaper ways to add aesthetics and practicality. For this, a curtain is suitable.

Curtains perform certain functions, namely:

  1. Do not allow people to get wet inside the veranda, objects near window openings.
  2. The canvas protects the interior from sunlight and hot air currents.
  3. Cloth or other material (PVC, bamboo, etc.) virtually eliminates insects from entering the room.
  4. Curtains will partially complement or complete the design of the room, adding decorativeness.
  5. The dense canvas hides the interior from prying eyes.

Closed constructions, where there are walls and glass, can also be supplemented with curtains. However, the curtains will act as a decorative rather than functional element.

For outdoor rooms, roller blinds are often chosen, in which there are the functions of blinds and the beauty of classic fabric curtains. During the production, various materials are used, more often polyester-based versions with polyvinyl chloride impregnation are offered for sale. The main difference from other types of curtains is the complexity of the design.

Such curtains are made by a single cloth, which is located on the shaft, and mounted above the windows, other openings. Structural control can be manual or using an automatic system. Roller blinds are equipped with all parts for installation, and they can be installed on PVC staples or sticky elements.

By material

Currently, stores offer a wide range of materials. The terrace can be decorated in different styles using delicate and soft fabric curtains or dense canvas based on bamboo, PVC film, etc.

The most popular look is thin fabric curtains, which are mounted on the ledges at the openings or above the windows. They are ideal for summer cottages. Such curtains help to exclude hit of sunshine, therefore inside there will be a cool place to relax in the summer. They are allowed to be used for decoration during the holidays.

  • Among the main advantages of fabric curtains for the veranda and home are the following:
  • Moisture resistance and protection against dust as the material is impregnated with special means.
  • Easy care, which consists in washing cloths and quick drying. It is enough to hang them on the ledge, and under their own weight they will straighten themselves.
  • Reliable insect protection.
  • Resistance to sunlight, which helps to preserve the color, external characteristics, structure of the threads for many years.
  • The ability to protect the veranda and its space from various external factors.

In addition, fabric materials (soft, light and transparent) can be draped. It is easy to make folds or folds from them in several steps. Perfect for English or Roman curtains.

From fabric materials it is recommended to use:

  1. Accordion pleats - Suitable for decoration of window openings of any shape. Such curtains look non-standard, perfectly complement the arches. Curtains are characterized by the presence of a special spraying, due to which dirt does not remain on them, and the color is protected from ultraviolet radiation.
  2. Tulle - suitable for Provence style, the curtain will be light, can imitate the structure of stone or wood. The lightness and airiness of the material creates a favorable atmosphere for tea drinking or chatting over a cup of coffee.
  3. Blackout - A modern material that differs in its characteristics from other fabrics. Canvases are made specifically to darken the interior space in the house or on the veranda. Blackout protects from the sun, drafts, partially absorbs noise, allows you to save heat indoors.

The last type of matter can be from 2 or 3 layers. Two-layer options - with a light or metallized surface to reflect ultraviolet radiation. The reverse side, which will be inside the veranda or terrace, is made of dense satin threads, which helps to repel dust, eliminates the transmission of light.

For additional protection against moisture, manufacturers impregnate the material with acrylic. In the production of three-layer species, a decorative addition is used in the form of jacquard patterns, photo printing is an excellent option for a summer residence. Blackout is expensive, but its external characteristics are better than other fabric materials.

  • The main advantages of blackout:
  • Street noise absorption. The density and properties of the material will help to suppress street sounds by 50%, so the veranda will be much quieter and more comfortable, which is important for a summer residence or a house near roads.
  • Thermal insulation parameters to protect the room from the scorching sun in the summer or cold weather.
  • Fire safety, which is due to the lack of burning canvas in case of fire. Curtains will melt without emission of harmful substances.
  • Easy care with machine washability.
  • Durability of the material.
  • Cloths are easily draped, you can independently make blinds, curtains.

The next preferred material for the manufacture of curtains on the veranda is bamboo - a natural material that can be used for straight and rolled curtains with non-standard weaving. This option is suitable for protecting windows, doors and other openings in the country. Canvases with warm wood shades complement wicker furniture, suitable for eco-style.

  • Among the advantages of bamboo curtains distinguish:
  • Environmental friendliness.
  • Antistatic, which eliminates the attraction of dust.
  • Easy care, material can be wiped with a damp sponge.
  • Originality, especially in combination with interior items made from natural materials.

Bamboo helps to hide from the scorching rays of the sun in the summer, protects the room from minor rainfall, insects and wind. The material is simply mounted, during operation it is twisted into rolls. The best design of the gazebo is PVC curtains (polyvinyl chloride). It is such a material that ideally protects from many external factors.

Using transparent options for the veranda ("soft windows"), owners get many advantages:

  • glazing effect
  • moisture protection
  • strength and flexibility
  • wide temperature range of operation,
  • service life - more than 5 years,
  • Affordable price
  • simplicity of leaving, installation and dismantle.

PVC curtains perfectly transmit light practically without refraction of rays, which creates the effect of classic glazing. The material does not burn out from ultraviolet radiation, easily tolerates the ingress of fats, oils, etc.“Soft windows” are strong, therefore they are not deformed from the wind. Air exchange is difficult when closing the openings with PVC film, but this allows you to save a certain amount of heat in the cold season, however, without the ventilation in the summer, a greenhouse effect is created.

For the veranda, “soft windows” are the best option for price, functionality and practicality. However, without additional clearance inside it will be uncomfortable. To solve the problem, fabric canvases made of light, airy materials are used.

How to sew with your own hands

Sewing curtains on your own will not be a problem if you decide on an option that is suitable in style for a summer residence or terrace. You can independently arrange the windows with PVC film to protect against adverse weather, extraneous sounds and insects. Hand-made manufacturing allows you to personally choose the materials, color, saves the budget.

Necessary materials and tools

Before starting the process of making curtains with your own hands, you need to determine the material and perform some preparation. If a lot of light falls on the veranda, then it is recommended to opt for dark and dense canvases - to protect against scorching rays. If there are trees near the terrace that create shade, you should buy light and light fabrics.

Self-tailoring requires the following tools and materials:

  1. Threads in the color of curtains.
  2. Scissors.
  3. Needles and pins.
  4. Pencils and ruler.
  5. Sewing machine.
  6. Choosing a PVC material for "soft windows", you will need a special device for soldering.

Having bought materials, pre-training is carried out. To do this, potential curtains are washed, ironed to prevent deformation, shrinkage in the future. For cutting, apertures are measured taking into account the height of the finished product and its width. To the obtained parameters add 10 cm - for finishing the edges and hem.

Step-by-step sewing instructions

Prior to cutting and edge processing, you should determine the method of attachment. Subsequent placement of the product, which is not intended to be moved, can be carried out on adhesive tape. For window sashes that open, use rings, hooks. For PVC curtains, openings are measured with the coverage of support poles and salaries, after - the film is cut and soldered. Inconsistency with the exact size leads to the formation of folds and gaps, distortion of external data.

Sewing process algorithm:

  1. Slices of fabrics are laid out on the floor or other flat surface for cutting.
  2. With a small window width, you can use a single curtain for all openings or small pieces for each casement, to simplify the opening / closing of windows and visually increase the interior space of a room.
  3. To process the side parts of the canvases and the bottom, go to the upper edges to fix the braid and fasteners.
  4. When creating fabric products do "pickups" to complement the composition.
  5. For PVC film, a soldering device is used. All parts are laid out on a surface that is not “afraid” of the effects of high temperatures, solder all parts, install accessories for fastening.

The manufacture of curtains from do-it-yourself textiles or films is an affordable opportunity to decorate the veranda in the country house, in a private house. The individual design of the product will complement the interior, make it unusual, and the owners of the premises will be able to choose the material that will be safe and of high quality.

How to fix the curtains

Methods for fixing curtains on street verandas or arbors are determined by the materials used, the structure of the building. Often, products are hung on belts, hooks, which are mounted with screws along the perimeter.

Curtains are attached to staples made in the following variations:

  • swivel mechanisms
  • sliding structures
  • staples with straps.

The most reliable is the first option. During installation, eyelets are used that are placed around the perimeter of the canvas at the same distance from each other, where the brackets are inserted. The fasteners are reliable, suitable for heavy canvases, do not break down in strong winds. With eyelets, the curtain easily unfolds or twists into a roll.

Sliding structures are easy to use and reliable. Installation is carried out using guides and rollers or cables with carabiners. After installation, the curtain easily and freely moves in the horizontal plane, opening access to the window or closing the opening. Light and air curtains can be hung on metal pipes, carabiners, fastened with straps.

Fixing “soft windows” made of PVC has several options:

  1. Staples with a rotary mechanism and a spring are placed around the perimeter of the window, mounted on eyelets. The design fixes and pulls the canvas.
  2. Installation of brackets is done around the perimeter on the eyelets, the stretch will be belts with fasteners.
  3. Cassette types of systems are installed using sliding door technology. The film is inserted into the frame, which moves on casters.

If the canvas creates the effect of the wall, then you can make a zipper in the center - to open, and to use the cords to collapse in a vertical position.

Numerous fastener options help guide the canvas up, down, to the sides to open or close the interior of the veranda. There is also a variant of Japanese curtains that pull on the frame and move along the ledge. They allow you to make a closed opening, creating a sealed protective shield from winds and rains.

Care for outdoor curtains for gazebos and verandas

Caring for your outdoor curtains is often very simple. Dry or wet processing is selected depending on the material. It is recommended to wash the cloths once a season, but the degree of contamination should be monitored.

The main recommendations are as follows:

  1. Dacron canvas with PVC impregnation undemanding care. To get rid of stains and dirt, you can use a soap-based solution and a silicone brush. After removing dirt, the fabric is washed under water. Such care and accurate operation of the curtains will provide the product with a service life of up to 15 years.
  2. Film washing on the street it is carried out by Kaercher devices or water from a hose with a nozzle.
  3. Impregnated fabric curtains should be washed as little as possible, because this process impairs moisture resistance and dust repulsion. Textiles should be vacuumed or dry. If water treatment is indispensable, a short cycle and the “Delicate Wash” mode are set in the washing machine. Water temperature - not higher than + 30 ° С, detergents - in liquid form.
  4. After washing, the curtains should be squeezed silently with your hands, spread and hang on the street. Ironing - to be without steam treatment.
  5. It is permissible to remove contamination with ordinary household soap and water up to + 40 ° C. The spots are thoroughly soaped, brushed, then washed off with non-hot water.

Proper installation of curtains on the veranda gives a high degree of comfort, regardless of weather conditions. Using this element of decor, the owner of the building can protect himself and guests from the sun, wind, prying eyes, as well as accents or complement the interior. Self-tailoring is not difficult if there is material and the necessary tools, so almost every housewife can arrange a veranda.

Features of street paintings

An important role in creating coziness and harmony in the interior is played by properly selected street curtains. In addition to aesthetic pleasure, they perform such important functions:

  • prevent insects from entering,
  • protect from the scorching sun, wind and rain,
  • help hide from prying eyes
  • conceal possible errors in the construction of the veranda.

The material for the curtains in the gazebo should have the following characteristics:

  • fire safety
  • wear resistance
  • resistance to fading,
  • water and dirt repellent effect.

Given all these requirements, street fabric will cost a lot, but all costs are justified.Good material can easily last up to 5 seasons and longer, while ordinary curtain drapes last only a couple of years.

For arbors and verandas, acrylic sheets, lightproof curtains, soft PVC, tarpaulin or bamboo options are most often chosen.

To protect from the sun, you can also build awnings - special canopies or use the awning to sew curtains. It is distinguished by practicality and a variety of colors for a beautiful design.

Features of the choice of curtains on the veranda to the cottage

Once done, you need to choose a good curtain. In the case of curtains for the open veranda, it is necessary to understand some features. Please note that the open building is not protected from rain or wind, because curtains will be the only obstacle to the weather. Next, we look at what specific characteristics are important for the proper selection of curtains and what they are.

A large number of curtain materials are available on the market, however we would recommend staying at one of the following:

  • impregnated street fabrics,
  • awning oxford fabric,
  • pvc curtains
  • jalousie.

Impregnated street fabrics

Unfortunately, it will not work to use ordinary fabric for curtains on the veranda - the material must be durable, but not devoid of aesthetics. An ideal option for lovers of fabric curtains would be impregnated fabrics - most often they are made of acrylic or polyester, however, options from Teflon are most valued. Special impregnation makes it possible to use them even during rain (the fabric does not get wet, does not fade and does not lose its attractiveness).

Also, curtains on the porch to the cottage have a number of other, no less important advantages:

  • wear resistance (most natural elements are not able to damage curtains),
  • fire resistance (impregnation is not afraid of fire - it does not melt and practically does not burn),
  • tactile pleasantness (the curtains are very attractive to the touch).

There are, I must admit, disadvantages, which are also necessary to consider when buying. Such curtains for the veranda in the country house do not last so long: they will last for a maximum of several seasons, even if you take care of them carefully.

Awning Oxford Fabrics

Awning fabrics can be used not only for sewing awnings for swings and tents, but also for curtains for a summer terrace in the country. The fabric is particularly durable, and talking about protection from the weather once again just does not make sense.

It is made of polyester, which is coated with polymers and wear-resistant varnish. Its strength is measured not only in the absence of damage, but also in temperature tolerance - from -40 to 70 C (without being tensile or compressive, without actually changing its appearance). Also, the fabric is resistant to various acids and solvents, and lasts about 15 years without any additional repair.

PVC curtains for the veranda

Such waterproof curtains for the veranda have the following advantages:

  • economical - they are made from the most cheap materials.
  • transparent - awnings for the veranda in the form of a film will let in enough sunlight ..
  • reliable - the PVC construction can be easily lowered and fixed, and if it is not needed, it can be easily rolled up and folded until better times.

It should also be noted that PVC curtains for the veranda are much more reliable than their direct competitors - light and durable, they retain their original shape even after long use. You can even work with them on your own - it’s extremely easy to sew from them, and the dirt is eliminated with just a cloth, which you need to moisten before using a glass cleaner.

The disadvantage may be some intolerance to the hot climate: such transparent curtains for the veranda on the street are not recommended to be hung in the open sun, because they can fade, and a little later - get worn and torn. You can look at more complete information about this type of decor in our other article about curtains for a verandah and a terrace. In it we will talk about all aspects of this interior detail and their main features.

Jalousie

The installation of blinds on the open veranda is somewhat different from the usual closure of window openings. Initially, you should decide on the design.

There are several types of blinds that can be used:

  • horizontal (suitable for registration of low openings),
  • vertical (may not be limited in height - most often they are used for high terraces, the main difference from conventional models is the lack of lamella mounting),
  • thin blinds (made of fabric ropes).

It is worth noting that blinds can provide only aesthetic fencing of space, but not direct protection. However, bright sunlight or prying eyes can still be avoided. Unfortunately, if the dwelling is located in a climatic zone where strong winds constantly blow, then this type of blinds for verandas will serve very short.

Pay attention to the fact that stripes of the canvas (otherwise called lamellas) can be made not only from fabric. There are blinds where the lamellas are made of wood, bamboo, plastic and even metal. Again, the function is extremely decorative, but the room will sparkle with new colors if such curtains are hung there.

What curtains cannot be used for an open veranda?

In order not to make a mistake when choosing street curtains on the veranda at the cottage in a country house, you need to keep in mind some basic selection rules.

  1. Firstly, you need to remember that the street is not an apartment, therefore you need to choose exclusively easy-to-clean fabrics. No matter how carefully you handle the curtains, they will inevitably become dirty, and therefore it is advisable to know how to clean the fabric and what means to use. Awning and PVC curtains for a veranda are especially good - they can be washed even without removing from fastenings.
  2. Secondly, the fabric also does not like ultraviolet, because the curtains should be impregnated - they protect not only from moisture, but also from exposure to sunlight. Please note that the store may well offer the usual dense fabric - require fabric with impregnation.
  3. Thirdly, in the case of curtains on the veranda of the open type, such a phenomenon as windage can play a role. Simply put, the wind can raise the curtains, and it is also necessary to deal with this - use fasteners. Therefore, you should not purchase curtains with plastic fasteners that look unreliable - they can break with a strong wind. When choosing, it is worth using the rule “utilitarianism, backed by aesthetics”, but not vice versa. It is also important to remember that wooden fences for the terrace can also protect your curtains.

How to choose curtains for a covered veranda

To choose the curtains on the glazed veranda correctly, you need to pay attention to the varieties of the proposed options.

We can distinguish the following main types of curtains for a covered veranda:

Italian and French - in fact, are variations of the classic theme: the lack of rigor, a special pomp in the texture and colors, the choice of expensive fabrics at the base. Japanese, Roman, bamboo and roll - options for elegant in its simplicity designs, which would be too much bravura definitely superfluous.

Italian curtains

This type of curtain differs from the others in that they do not move apart to the end, but diagonally pulls together a richly decorated cord. This element is of particular importance for the whole structure - it is decorated with brushes and bows, it should look elegant. Lambrequin (horizontal decorative drapery) is not provided.

Italian curtains are good, first of all, for high openings - these can be large verandas or non-standard architectural solutions for windows.Italy is suitable for any type of room and for any selected design, successfully blending in with both antique classics and the minimalist style of the veranda.

Particularly successful models with printed patterns, for example, geometric shapes, which somewhat smooth the apparent softness of the fabric, giving it volume and texture

French curtains

An option that can sometimes be confused with the Austrian model. However, no confusion arises if we mention the variety of “marquise” - fabric gathered in festoons. The main difference with the Austrian model lies in the length - the “marquise” can have a floor length and also be lifting.

These curtains came to us from French palaces, therefore they will most likely look in classic expensive interiors. Large windows are good for French curtains, because their volume is ideal for magnificent curtains.

Fabrics when sewing are taken only the lightest - this is a cambric, silk. Patterns are welcome, however, are not a mandatory component - usually a fringed structure to attract attention is more than enough. It is desirable to choose from light colors, especially pastel shades look attractive.

It should be borne in mind that the French curtains do not move apart, therefore, in order to use them, you will need to order a high-quality cornice system - most effectively with electric control.

Japanese curtains

These curtains on the veranda at the cottage are also called panel. Grace and practicality is what can be expected from the Japanese style, and in this the country of the rising sun does not disappoint.

Curtains are smooth smooth panels on a special ledge - in fact, representing the design of a wardrobe. The canvas can be moved apart or also folded in one direction. Typically, about three to five screens are used for decoration - therefore, they can be more than one color, allowing you to combine and create unexpected design solutions.

Of the advantages of Japanese curtains, perhaps, first of all, the possibility of zoning space can be distinguished. If the veranda is large enough, then using the panels it can be divided into several parts, isolating, for example, a resting place. Practicality is also worth mentioning - they are easy to care for, wash and clean. The peculiarity of the Japanese design is that the panel fabric is very easy to change - if the color or texture is tired, then you can safely experiment with new ones.

Please note that the choice of colors should depend on the size of the veranda. If you are interested in the Japanese theme (bright colors, ethnic patterns, etc.), then make sure that the veranda has a sufficient degree of spaciousness - in small rooms, such color schemes look extremely disadvantageous.

Roman curtains

The model is characterized by the naturalness and lightness of the fabric - it goes well with large, full of light spaces. Extremely comfortable - easy to lift (the mechanism works on a chain), and you can fix them at any height that seems appropriate.

They have a number of advantages:

  • not bulky (almost invisible on the windows when folded),
  • convenient to use (fastening system is simple)
  • inexpensive (in comparison with magnificent French models, for example, they significantly save the buyer’s money).

Fit into almost any design of the veranda in the country (photo below) - Roman curtains can decorate even a small terrace, where other types of curtains will look somewhat pompous.

Roman curtains are also distinguished by the fact that exclusively natural fabrics are most often used in their production. You can hang them on several types of cornices:

  • Rope mechanism (can only be used with light fabrics)
  • Chain rotor design (similar to the design of the blinds)
  • Planck-rope mechanism (an inexpensive option that does not differ, however, by the reliability of fastening and durability).

Bamboo curtains

If the plastic and fabrics are somewhat tired, then you can try to order curtains from bamboo. For the manufacture of such a design, dried pre-plant stems are used. In the production process, they are intertwined, they can also be painted with natural pigment.

Among the distinctive features of such curtains on the veranda to the country can be noted:

  • Moisture resistance - stems are not afraid of water, do not lose their shape and serve for a long time even in humid climates.
  • Lightness - virtually no load on the mounts and lifting mechanisms.
  • Not demanding to care - just enough to wipe sometimes with a soft cloth.
  • Inexpensive - it may seem that material like bamboo will be quite expensive, but in fact, the situation is exactly the opposite.

Note that bamboo curtains will look good in minimalism style design - if they are bright colors, then the curtains will become that necessary accent in the calm colors of the veranda, and if the curtains, on the contrary, are pastel, then the room will be filled with the necessary amount of light. Thin lamellas will gradually transmit light - there will always be enough sun in the veranda.

Roller blinds

This type of curtain is a fabric cloth fixed in the place of reinforcement on a special roller. They have their own lifting mechanism, which folds the curtain into a roll. Practicality and ease of use are the main distinguishing qualities of roller shutters, not to mention their affordability.

Roller blinds are in demand because of their reliability - they cope perfectly with the task of protection from sunlight (and not only) due to the dense structure. Wipe and wash them is also almost not necessary - the dust does not linger due to the impregnation, and the cloth can sometimes be wiped with a damp cloth.

Having rolled up the shutters, you may not even notice them on the window - they do not take up much space, therefore they can hardly be considered as decoration for large luxurious verandas, but it is better not to find options for a small terrace. In addition, shutters are used not only independently, but also complete with other types of curtains - for example, traditional curtains.

Eyelet selection

When choosing eyelets and cornices, it is worth paying attention, first of all, to the type of the veranda. If the option is closed - there should not be any problems with the selection, these details may be the same as in ordinary rooms designs. Things are somewhat more complicated with open verandas - curtains are constantly attacked by wind and rain, so you should approach the fixtures with caution.

A few words about terminology. Eyelets are rings located at the top of a curtain. They are threaded through the cornice and thereby hold the curtains.

They are made of different materials, plastic is most often used, but it would be rash to recommend plastic mechanisms — they are more likely than others to break down. It is advisable to give preference to metal and wood - the former are stronger, and the latter are slightly lighter in structure. Plastic ones, however, are distinguished by a slightly more careful attitude to the fabric that is suspended from them, there are no spools and puffs left on them - this also needs to be taken into account.

The technology of eyelets on the eaves is very convenient for cleaning curtains - they can be easily removed and also easily hung back. If the fastenings are reliable, then you can even hang on them heavy and dense fabrics without fear.

Buying Tips

When choosing curtains for an open veranda, you need to focus, first of all, on their reliability. In the case of installing curtain rods and curtains in the veranda, the closed situation changes dramatically - it is important to choose on the basis of confidence in the fastenings, aesthetic attractiveness, and also taking into account the characteristics of the fabric chosen.

Do not neglect such a factor as seasonality. If you need to use the veranda in winter, the ideal option would be plastic models, which will not only protect against sunlight, but also will not allow heat to pass through. In summer, light curtains made of organza or other simple fabrics will be quite appropriate.

And, of course, do not forget about interior design. Curtains should not be knocked out of the color scheme, striking (unless this is a subtle design move appropriate in intentionally simple interiors). Bright curtains are not too suitable for small rooms, however, muted calm tones can decorate both a spacious veranda and a small room equally.

There is an option to use several types of curtains, changing them depending on the season or design changes on the veranda.

Features

In the warm season, it is difficult to stay in the house if there is a light building in the form of a veranda or a gazebo. Filled with aromas of flowers, air, refreshing coolness await on a cozy and beautifully decorated terrace in the middle of the garden or near the main building.

The veranda and terrace in the country house is a favorite area for families to relax. On a cozy veranda overlooking green trees and lawns, as a rule, all family members gather together, spending time in comfort. Therefore, every housewife tries to decorate the veranda and gazebo as a business card of their summer cottage. Elegant and stylish curtains occupy an important place in the decor.

Outdoor curtains protect from heat in the sun, waterproof curtains effectively protect from rain and dew due to the water-repellent properties of the materials from which they are made.

Waterproof curtains are designed to stay on the open area of the veranda or arbor.

Materials

Fabric for curtains or curtains on the veranda is selected depending on the season. For the summer, the most light and transparent types of tissue are relevant. Popular materials for the summer season:

In sunny weather, translucent laces and festoons will look just magical, playing under the bright rays of the sun. They are collected and draped with folds, securing with the help of exquisite elements.

Bamboo is another type of summer material of natural origin. Eco-friendly fiber with unusual weaving is easy to clean and wash. For a practical housewife, such curtains can be the best solution for decorating both open and closed verandas. Curtains do not cause allergies, do not accumulate static electricity and do not allow flying insects.

Folded into a roll above a door or window opening, bamboo curtains do not interfere with movement, and besides, they perfectly decorate the interior. The warm tone and originality of the design became another strength of this summer material. Near the wicker furniture made of twigs, bamboo looks harmonious, and the grass and trees in the garden and on the paths against the background of beige color pleases the eye with bright greenery.

Lightweight tent fabrics made for special technologies for gazebos and terraces have a density of no more than 250 g / m2. The high-quality coloring and impregnation of materials, the strength of the threads and the form of weaving are important.

Acrylic is widely used in synthetic materials., the most modern non-natural fabrics include blackout. The development of manufacturers from Finland made it possible to completely protect the room from the sun in early summer, when the “white nights” begin in the northern regions. Lightproof curtains do not allow "walk" drafts, help to maintain warmth and silence. Synthetic blackout is not subject to fire, in case of fire it melts with minimal emission of harmful substances. Curtains of two or three layers, the inner parts are usually draped with beautiful folds.

If the blackout is two-layer, the outer layer goes outside - fabric containing fine metallic threads that fully reflect light. The interior layer is a dark sun-screen fabric with a tight weave. Aesthetic curtains do not allow dust to sit, and soaked in acrylic repel moisture.

The third layer, if any, is a decorative material that imitates satin or silk, as well as jacquard, bright and colorful, with an ornamental pattern, photographic print. Quite expensive at a price, a three-layer blackout meets the requirements of an ideal material, looks great in any interior.

Canvas curtains with impregnation do not allow moisture to enter the house, close the windows from drafts, rains. For the coldest time - late autumn and winter - on the outdoor terrace, cloths from oilcloth and polycarbonate will become appropriate.

Canopies tarpaulin curtains additionally cover the ceiling and walls on the veranda.

Polymeric curtains are known as “soft windows”, which make it easy to protect the gazebo instead of glazing in the autumn-winter period. The tension of flexible PVC curtains provides them with proper light tightness, so in a gazebo with a similar design it will be quite light all day. Products of the latest generation have the following functional qualities:

  • Durability and reliability. The service life of curtains can reach 10 years, they do not sag and do not tear, they are resistant to sun and water.
  • High protective properties. You will not have dirt and dust, insects on the veranda. Shelter from rain and wind in the off-season and in winter can allow just such paintings instead of windows. In cold weather, a small heater is enough to settle in the heat without sacrificing the usual way of life in the country.
  • Low cost and ease of installation.

Plastic and polyethylene products of various colors, in addition to practicality, visually expand the space for viewing. They are not inferior in strength to colored curtains with synthetic threads. If necessary, the bottom of the windows is draped or covered with colored curtains additionally. This will hide the veranda from prying eyes, and complex curtains, consisting of two or three layers, further enhance the feeling of comfort and coziness.

Dimensions

The main dimensions of the curtains are length and width. The latter depends on the size of the cornice, depending on the thickness of the material, exceeding it one and a half to two times to create the desired volume. Such a parameter as the length of the terrace curtains can be different:

  • To the windowsill. Intended for windows located in niches, horizontally directed. Such curtains only slightly touch the plane of the windowsill.
  • Medium. In this case, the curtain hangs slightly lower, not reaching the line of the heating radiator. It is better to fix the curtains of such a length with pendants to make the appearance of the window more attractive with the curtains open.
  • To the floor. The windows from which a beautiful view opens - in an arched style, of an unusual shape, French and lifting are best decorated with such curtains. Falling freely to the floor, they decorate a spacious veranda.
  • Cafe style. So called small canvases that cover the bottom of the window, leaving the top open. Thus, indoor decoration is not visible from the street, and light and air freely enter the room.

If you like very long curtains lying on the floor with spectacular flounces, then add 10-15 cm on top and up to 50 cm of fabric below to make a hem.

How to choose?

When it comes time to choose the curtains suitable for the veranda, it is easy to get lost, because there are a large number of types of curtains, as well as options for decorating them. In this matter, methodological selection will help, allowing you to select suitable products. If necessary, the curtains are simply sewn independently from the fabrics intended for this.

Moreover, It is important to take into account the proportions of windows, the purpose and style of design of your comfortable corner. For a terrace, curtains become a visual dominant in the interior, and besides, protective functions are assigned to them, and not just a beautiful element. Experts do not recommend choosing expensive fabrics for sewing curtains, because they are exposed to the external environment, they need frequent cleaning or washing. Light and practical fabrics are suitable for decorating the terrace.

Fabric curtains and curtains are selected for the main colors of the interior. A large assortment allows you to do this without difficulty, since colors and patterns are on the market in abundance. Ready-made curtains take into account the most common sizes and types of windows. For non-standard openings on the terrace, the curtains can be shortened in size or special products with an original design can be made for such windows.

If you like a rustic veranda - with square large armchairs, a cabinet and shelves with carved doors, it is best to decorate the interior with smooth cotton curtains in a warm or neutral striped strip. Cream, green, red - depends on your taste and desire to decorate the terrace. If the openings are small, they are intended for direct curtains.

Deep folds on the cotton curtains create a feeling of comfort and security. A wooden cornice with rings, on which the curtains are fixed, maintains a natural atmosphere reminiscent of ancient traditions in the design of rural houses.

For a warm veranda in the off-season, the best choice is polyvinyl chloride facade curtains. The outdoor terrace area will be decorated with a moisture-proof decor, covered with a comfortable canopy. Customer reviews testify to the positive ratings received after the design of the arbors and terraces with PVC curtains.

How to hang?

To hang and fasten curtains made of fabric materials, several types of fastening structures are usually used. These are such devices:

  • Eaves in one or several rows. They hold the weight of the panel and help move it along the opening. Planks are available flat and round with different diameters, traditional are equipped with rings and cords for opening curtains. Cornices are made of brass, anodized iron, wood of a smooth texture or decorated with patterns and carvings.
  • Brackets are rotary and with straps. They hold street curtains, firmly fixed around the perimeter of the gazebo. Brackets withstand blizzards and heavy rain with wind. Curtains can be rolled up on a strap, often closed and opened.
  • Roll mechanisms.

Screens with fabric attached to them are called Japanese curtains. The frame moves along the cornice, hermetically closing the window opening and protecting the room from the incoming cold wind and oblique rain flows. Rolls made of natural materials and bamboo are becoming increasingly popular. They are universal species, easy to assemble and straighten. To successfully decorate the terrace, fabric curtains are complemented by garters and pickups, beautiful handmade clips.

Design options

Distinguish between classic, romantic and modern design styles with curtains. Classic models can decorate a spacious veranda, turning it into a work of art. English or Austrian, French versions of street curtains and textile curtains - lifting, hooks and eyelets.

To care for them you need to spend a lot of time, maintaining an exquisite decor.

Simple and beautiful - it's about design pleated curtains suitable for any size of the veranda. Light weight and compactness are the undoubted advantages of such models. Pleating helps to regulate the flow of light, and special impregnation for a long time keeps the curtains attractive appearance and cleanliness.

White and light-colored curtains expand the space of a small terrace, they can be hung both in summer and in winter when snow is lying.Snow-white and neutral beige curtains look like attributes of luxury, recalling the design of a recreation area in elite resorts.

Perfectly refreshing and making the room colder in the heat, summer curtains designed in cold tones: blue, lilac, soft turquoise. Warm colors add warmth and comfort. Raspberry and pink, purple look enchanting, fabulous. Green color cheers up, the same can be said about the color of a bright orange.

If the area of the windows on the veranda is large, and most of them face the sunny side, the best option would be to strengthen the double-sided curtains that reflect light from the outside.

Roman curtains - unlimited lengths of straight sections of fabric that can be collected in uniform noble folds. Curtains of this type look great on any window openings.

If on the veranda the windows are glazed to the full height, from the ceiling to the floor, you can stop at such a design option as panels. The stretched fabric of the panel curtains is attached to the cornice and can only move horizontally along the window. Maintenance of the panels is simple, they do not need to be washed and ironed like fabric curtains. To create an interesting decor, a bright and colorful pattern with accents on individual elements is applied to the canvases. Different curtains move along the windows, changing places.

Romantic elegant curtains, like summer dresses, dressing the room, make a good impression on the viewer. They can be left straight or draped, show imagination and create an original design by combining them in a unique composition under the canopies and canopy.

If you hang curtains along the entire perimeter of the veranda or terrace, you will immediately create several accents in the decor. You can leave one or two sides of the gazebo free by placing the curtains only on the other two. Exit to the terrace according to the French tradition, it is also customary to drape fabrics.

Vertical draperies eliminate excess sunlight. The canopy in tone of the tablecloth is placed above the table.

What are the curtains for the gazebo for?

Outdoor curtains for the gazebo have both practical and decorative functions.

  • Practical properties
  1. Prevent the penetration of ultraviolet rays.
  2. Resist the penetration of wind, drafts.
  3. Protect in rainy weather.
  4. Allow you to retire from prying eyes.
  5. As a rule, there is a lot of dust and dirt outside the city. Street curtains prevent them from entering the room.
  6. Provide insect protection.
  • Decorative features
  1. Provide a romantic and comfortable atmosphere.
  2. Add variety to the interior.
  3. Hide defects and irregularities of the gazebo.

Fabric curtains

Textiles are an excellent decorative element in the interior, able to cheer up and decorate even the simplest structures. Fabric accessories do not interfere with the natural air circulation, but perfectly cover from the sun and rain.

The main advantages of fabric types are affordable price and a wide selection of products of various color palettes. However, they do not differ in long service life and under the influence of the sun begin to quickly fade, lose strength and creep.

Transparent curtains for gazebos and porches made of organza, silk or chiffon will help to create a romantic and fabulous atmosphere. For lovers of eco-style who want to be in a natural and relaxing environment of clean air, denser fabrics made from flax, teak and canvas are suitable. Special blackout curtains provide maximum protection against ultraviolet radiation.

Rolled curtains for arbors - a modern alternative to classical fabric options and volume curtains. For outdoor options, polyester is used as a canvas, which is impregnated with polyvinyl chloride. As a result, rolled curtains differ:

  • long term of operation,
  • resistance to weather changes, temperature fluctuations,
  • fire resistance and moisture resistance,
  • resistance to deformation.

Often, the canvas for outdoor applications is made translucent. This contributes to the diffusion of light into the room, protection from the wind, the creation of a light shadow, without blocking the view of the street.

Light and smart

Fabric curtains are often hung in the arbor by aesthetes; for them, beauty is more important than other arguments. The assortment of fabrics is large, but it is better to give preference to light shades. They harmonize well with any interior and combine with the surrounding nature. It is more practical to choose curtains made of cotton, linen, silk.

Creating a romantic interior, they use transparent fabrics - a veil, organza.

Mounting Options

Fabric roll panels made of PVC or textile material are fastened in different ways. There is nothing complicated in such a mount, it can be installed independently, provided that you have the necessary tools and basic building skills.

Moreover, it is necessary to fully follow the instructions proposed for fastening, since if you do not understand the control mechanism of roller blinds, you can easily damage it and thus make it unusable.

Most often, such curtains are fastened with brackets with straps (there are also rotary options). This fastening is appreciated due to the fact that it withstands strong gusts of wind, while the material is not injured. Moreover, it is easy to operate the roll panel - on such a mount it easily opens and closes so that the window only partially opens. With this control method, it is easy to assemble the entire curtain into a roll above the opening.

Other mounting options are less common - guides with rollers or a cable with carabiners. This option is much more expensive, and is more often intended for horizontal placement of curtains, for example, for blinds. It is more suitable for standard textile options, so it is rarely used for attaching curtains to the veranda. Nevertheless, if fabric panels were chosen for the street, but not made of polyester, you can stop at this option if its price seems affordable.

The choice of curtains for terraces, verandas, or outdoor arbors should be given quite a lot of attention. Why? Because the outdoor room is practically not protected from changing weather conditions, nevertheless, it is these rooms that most often serve to create comfort and warmth in the estate.

On the lustration, a closed veranda is presented, and the glazed window openings are closed with just such curtains. There will be windows raised and rolls lowered, the room will be protected from sunlight, but will have good ventilation.

Moreover, the arrangement of the gazebo greatly affects the operation of the premises. If the terrace or the veranda, or individual street rooms are not blocked by special curtains, huge difficulties are created with their use. This automatically means that in many cases it becomes impossible to use this room for recreation and pastime.

What should I look for when choosing curtains for the street? Firstly, their practicality. No matter how beautiful or fashionable the curtains are, if they are difficult to use, the money will be wasted.

Secondly, the right materials should be selected that are sufficiently wear-resistant for the street, but at the same time they look attractive in appearance. In today's market there is a sufficient selection of such materials. The illustration above shows how beautifully selected curtains, taking into account the design of the building and the color scheme.

Thirdly, the curtains must fully fulfill their function, and there are several of them for street curtains - protection from the sun, wind, rain, darkening of the room, preservation of heat and creating comfort. Taking into account all these factors, you can choose the most suitable option for roller blinds.

The opening-closing process occurs smoothly and silently, can be carried out in manual mode - from the handle, or automatically - with an electric drive with a button or remote control. Some manufacturers offer intelligent systems with sensors for light, rain, wind and interfacing with the "smart home" system.

  • restrain wind flow, precipitation,

Burlap curtains

Burlap is a coarse web of interwoven thick fibers. As raw materials for the manufacture of burlap are used: jute, flax, kenaf, rope, hemp. The material is used for sewing bags due to its strength and low cost. In addition, burlap is readily used in needlework, decoration and interiors.

Burlap curtains look great both in the wooden gazebo, on the terrace, and in the kitchen and even in the living rooms. Calm warm color, unobtrusiveness and rough character of the fabric are appreciated among designers. The most advantageous of these curtains will fit into the interior in the style of Provence, country, Scandinavian and eco-style.

Burlap curtains have many advantages:

  • natural eco-friendly material
  • practical color
  • will last a long time
  • very cheap
  • universal.

Do it yourself

The easiest option to sew curtains from burlap with your own hands will require a sewing machine and half an hour of your time.

  1. Decide on the length of the curtain, add 16 cm to the hem.
  2. Cut a burlap flap of calculated length.
  3. Twist the top edge over, iron and stitch the seam. Do the same with the bottom edge. Burlap curtains are ready!

Important! Sacking needs to be prepared for work: wash and iron with an iron, because it is characterized by shrinkage.

Canvas Curtains

Canvas curtains - this is a purely practical and cheap option to protect the room from moisture, cold wind and the scorching sun. This option looks mediocre and boring. But as an emergency protection against sudden rainfall or hail will serve perfectly. Also, a tarpaulin curtain can be used as a protective awning for open buildings for the winter period.

Tarpaulin has excellent functional properties:

  • resistant to moisture and fire
  • repels pollution
  • prevents the formation of mold and mildew,
  • retains heat well
  • Cheap and durable.

It is worth considering that the canvas canvas is quite heavy, it is not easy to close and open such curtains. The weight of the screen determines the possible mounting method. For small, lightweight options, rings and clamps can be used. In other cases, only eyelets.

The entire variety of curtains considered can be divided into two groups: protective and interior. The former are designed specifically to protect both your vacation and the structure itself from all weather vagaries. The latter play a greater aesthetic role, performing only a few protective functions. If you do not want to refuse to rest in bad weather and give up style, it is worth protecting the veranda or arbor with practical PVC and adding decorative curtains for comfort inside.

Variety of Street Curtains

Outdoor curtains intended for open arbors and verandas should fulfill their main purposes:

  • protect from the sun
  • serve as a barrier to insects,
  • keep internal heat.

In addition to these items, the curtains will serve as a bright decoration in the overall design of the gazebo or veranda. And skilled stylists will be able to hide with the help of curtains defects in construction and emphasize its merits.

Today, manufacturers offer many variations of street curtains. Conventionally, they are divided into the following types:

  • textile
  • protective tents
  • PVC cloth.

To select the most successful option, it is important to know the pros and cons of these species. Then the final choice will not disappoint, but live up to expectations.

A few tips to make the right choice.

Nowadays, completely harmless materials for curtains are used that do not harm human health. Therefore, when making a choice, first of all, you need to be guided by what main task the curtains should perform. And only then pay attention to the following criteria:

  • what weather conditions this material can withstand,
  • withstand little wind
  • protection against natural precipitation,
  • combination of canvas with the overall interior.

Fabric curtains

The most common and easiest option is textiles. Silk, chiffon or organza will look equally impressive. At the same time, natural ventilation will not be disturbed and you can breathe fresh air and enjoy the view from the outside. To escape from insects, such curtains have to be treated with special compounds after washing. Suitable remedies for this can be purchased at gardening stores.

Thin, translucent curtains are hung on curtains, form them into delicate airy assemblies. This design will give a feeling of comfort and lightness. Suitable for festive events.

Heavier and denser fabrics (linen, teak, canvas) look appropriate in the form of Roman curtains or laconic folds. Such an accent will be a worthy decoration of the Mediterranean style in the interior.

For wooden rooms, rope curtains in the form of bead threads, decorative leaves and similar ornaments are ideal. For such designs, curtains made of natural bamboo, straw or hemp will also be appropriate.

For a romantic mood and intimate atmosphere, you can use blackout fabric curtains. This is a multilayer material that can shade the room by 90 - 100%. Typically, this fabric is combined with transparent, achieving the so-called effect of "day and night."

All of the above options are only suitable for the warm and dry season, unfortunately. Textile curtains will not save from rain or strong winds. In addition, they do not have a very long service life - up to 7 seasons. But in order to be able to be in the air in inclement weather, curtains made of materials, which are described below, are suitable.

Curtains - tents

Protective tents are an excellent barrier against annoying insects, rain and wind. Also, in a room with such curtains, heat is stored, which will greatly delight in cool weather. If necessary, you can even use a heater.

Awning cloth is made on the basis of tarpaulin. The synthetic fabric has an acrylic or teflon coating. Thanks to this composition, awning curtains can withstand both low temperature - 25 degrees, and quite high - up to + 60.

Acrylic curtains

Acrylic fabrics repel water well, because they have a fairly dense base. Such curtains well scatter the sun's rays, giving the room an unusual lighting. They can be used every day, but in inclement weather it is better to remove.

The disadvantage of acrylic curtains is that due to their density, the material is damaged at the folds when it is folded for storage. Creases and cracks appear there. This drawback significantly spoils the appearance of the room where such curtains are used.

PVC curtains

Nowadays, transparent and colored PVC curtains are widely used to decorate arbors and verandas. They differ from each other in that, in the manufacture of a colored web, fabric cord is added to it.

In terms of quality, PVC curtains are the most reliable and quite practical.

It is convenient to work with such a canvas, since it stretches, but at the same time retains its original shape. The material is durable and lightweight. It is easy to stitch. During operation it is not afraid of moisture. In case of contamination, it is enough to walk along the canvas with a rag soaked in a simple soapy solution. And if damaged, the defect can be eliminated with PVC glue.

Many people prefer transparent PVC curtains to decorate their arbors and verandas, because with protective properties you still have a feeling of open space.

The use of transparent PVC curtains may well replace glazing. At the same time, you can put fabric furniture in the room and not be afraid of dampness. Transparent curtains can be successfully combined with color. Such material is used safely all year round and in all weather conditions.

The disadvantage of such curtains is that they retain moisture and heat indoors. Therefore, you may feel like you are in a greenhouse or greenhouse. And with frequent airing and lifting the curtains, creases can form. Some experts advise hanging curtains so that they straighten themselves by exposure to sunlight.

Some ideas for comfort

According to the color scheme, it is better to give preference to a natural palette. Light colors will not burden and overload the space of the gazebo or veranda. A drawing with leaves or branches would be appropriate if you love motley. Such patterns will create a cheerful mood for guests. If you are a fan of plain fabrics, try combining two or three different shades. Such a solution is suitable for a celebration or a small family holiday.

As an alternative to curtains and curtains for the veranda, blinds made of bamboo are perfect. Or bamboo curtains can make openings in the gazebo.

The gazebo can be given a fabulous look of the palace by constructing a canopy from the curtains. Use airy gas fabrics for this.

If there are plastic curtains in the design - their laconicism can be diluted with decorative elements or hang curtains from light fabric to them.

The best solution would be to purchase curtains and curtains of at least 2 types. After all, events can be different in their subjects. And it’s important to decorate the room appropriately, starting with curtains.
