How to make a summer house with a barbecue and barbecue on your own in the country

Outdoor recreation is unthinkable without cooking something delicious on the coals. The fact of having a gazebo in the country implies that there should be a barbecue nearby. It will be operated not only with guests, but also during personal use in the family circle (cooking dinner, roasting meat on weekends and the like).

The gazebo should be equipped with a barbecue a priori. Let even the simplest, located ten meters from the recreation area, but it should be.

This publication will primarily consider the potential location, as well as material for the barbecue. This must be determined before the construction of the gazebo, since if a large furnace complex is planned, then additional area and foundation will be necessary for it. Even for a simple portable, you still need to allocate space, this is important.

The next step is to consider the phased construction process that you will encounter if you plan to build a gazebo from scratch. All steps will be duplicated with photographs for clarity.

Inside or outside?

A place for frying meat can be placed in two places:

Outside the gazebo. For this, any free space on the site can be selected. You can choose a place away from crowding so that smoke from combustion products does not cause discomfort for guests. This option can be implemented absolutely for any building, as it is not directly connected with the gazebo.

Inside. To do this, a special platform with a chimney is equipped, which allows you to cook food directly next to the guests. It is necessary to think over the design of the gazebo in advance so that the brazier not only fits and does not interfere with relaxation, but is also made according to all fire safety requirements.

Therefore, if you are considering the option inside, and looking for ordinary buildings, then think in advance about the minimum dimensions of the arbor and its location on the site. Otherwise, you simply can’t adjust the hearth in the room.

In the open gazebo

A freely ventilated area does not require any serious structural solutions in terms of construction. It is enough to withstand the entire technology of brazier erection, to prevent the ingress of coals on a tree and to monitor the reliability of the entire hearth.

The brazier can be installed in wooden and metal gazebos, although the safest option is brick (the metal structure is sometimes lined with crates, but I generally keep quiet about gazebos from timber).

In a closed gazebo (Finnish house)

A curious option is the Finnish grill, which allows you to place the hearth in a closed house right in the center. This idea came to us from the Scandinavian countries, where such structures in ancient times were used to heat people.

Modern facilities allow you to fry the meat, and sit at the table, and lie down on a reclining couch. And all this indoors!

At the cottage

If the area allows in the country, then you can consider several options for the location of the grill. The most preferable place is considered to be a separate space fenced from people, wooden surfaces and gusts of wind.

If for some reason you do not have the opportunity to "ennoble this place", then any free place is chosen away from the house, a barn and a wooden fence. Fire safety equipment is placed nearby - a bottle or bucket of water, sand. Ideally, have an equipped place for a fire extinguisher.

In the garden

If you have the opportunity to place the brazier within the garden, then this option is also worthy of attention. It is worth considering that in the fall foliage and grass will dry up, resulting in an increased risk of fire. However, in the summer, when everything is green, it is very nice to cook food next to trees, bushes and plants.

Made of bricks

The massive and capital barbecue grill is a wonderful decoration for both the gazebo and the cottage as a whole. Thanks to the closed internal structure, it is possible to cook food in any weather, whether it be wind or rain.

The price of such a “thing” is quite high against the background of metal analogues, but reliability and aesthetics are beyond doubt. In addition, such a barbecue can be assembled on your own. We considered detailed instructions in an article about creating a brazier from brick.

From metal

The most common for most gardeners installation of sheets of iron on the legs. Depending on the thickness of the metal and welding joints, such a barbecue can last from one to several tens of seasons without deformation.

There are two installation options:

  1. Stationary. The legs are firmly fixed in the ground or concreted, so you can set everything according to the level for convenient frying of meat (on skewers or grill, for example).
  2. Figurative. If you don’t have such a place for frying meat or the area does not allow you to constantly keep the grill in one place, then you can consider the portable version, which is removed as necessary in the barn.

The price of a metal structure can vary from 150 rubles (in Auchan or Tape, for example) to tens of thousands of rubles. They will differ in the thickness of the metal, the presence of a blower, the possibility of turning into a plate and so on.

Electric barbecue (electric grill)

A fashionable format for cooking meat abroad, which is slowly gaining its popularity in our market. There are many varieties of shapes, sizes and prices, in chain stores prices range from 4 to 15 thousand rubles on average.

If for some reason you don’t like the smell of smoke, you’re tired of preparing coal and preparing firewood, then you can consider an electrical analogue. He will also have his own concerns, for example, cleaning surfaces from plaque and grease or safe storage (at least hit him with a hammer or an ax), but they will noticeably differ from the wood counterpart.

I, as an avid lover of barbecue on charcoal, am skeptical about this installation, but since there is a demand for it, it would be wrong to not mention it.

Full stove complex

An elite approach to cooking, which combines the capabilities of barbecue, barbecue, stove, stove and even a fireplace. All together, this is called the furnace complex.

It is a massive brick structure, which is installed on a separate monolithic foundation, which allows you to cook in different formats - cook pilaf on the stove, bake meat in the oven and so on.

This is a really interesting option that will add a pleasant hassle to the owners. Still, not everyone can brag about the presence of such a thing. And it’s far from being possible to install it, since a large area is really needed for it.

Nikolai Tarasov showed us a very interesting option when he talked about his closed gazebo with a furnace complex.

Foundation

The gazebo itself does not require any serious reason, if we are not talking about the brick version. For a brick kiln complex, you will have to make a monolithic foundation in any case, but the frame can quite stay on the usual foundation.

  • From a bar or metal: block, pile.
  • Of brick tape or monolithic.

Fire safety

There are several features that are also applicable to any stoves installed near wooden objects (floor, walls, furniture):

  • The space around the barbecue should be upholstered with metal sheet.
  • Wood surfaces nearby should be flame retardant (protection against fire).
  • The hood should go to the detriment of comfort, and not the quality of the chimney. It’s better to make it bigger and better than more convenient and less effective.
  • The area nearby should be as clean as possible, without debris, chips and firewood that could catch fire.

Following these simple rules will help you avoid problems. I will allow myself to deviate a little from the topic and tell a story for those who are concerned with safety precautions.

A case from life (fall 2016): our friends from Moscow, avid summer residents, seriously took up the construction of a cottage in the suburbs. First they built a barn, then a capital bath with a second floor and took up the construction of the house itself.

Once, after another roasting of meat, in order to get rid of ash and ash inside the barbecue, the owner turned it over and left the coals to go out. A few hours later, when the coals were supposedly not already burning, all the ashes were collected in a plastic bucket (error No. 1), so that later it could be thrown away.

Of course, everyone forgot about this and before leaving, they put the bucket in a wooden shed (mistake No. 2). It did not smoke, did not smell. Just white ashes inside. The next week, when acquaintances arrived again at the cottage, an unpleasant surprise awaited everyone: from the barn there were only nails, screws, as well as metal remains of special equipment (chainsaw, jigsaw, pruning shears, shovels and the like).

In order to avoid such grief and hundreds of thousands of rubles put into the building and equipment, follow safety precautions and play it safe. Two liters of water are cheaper than a barn with inventory.

Draft chimney

As you know, a good chimney can cost more than the grill itself. In this case, it’s not worth saving, as we are talking about serious things - carbon monoxide and smoke can not only ruin your vacation, but harm your health.

The chimney must be large, vertical and installed according to all requirements. At first, during the start of burning, the draft can be very poor. This is due to the fact that the exhaust pipe must warm up, after which the smoke will begin to stretch normally.

If it is possible to light a fire earlier, before the arrival of the guests, then it makes sense to do so. This will save your nerves and guest comfort if you experience similar problems periodically.

Dimensional Drawings

To understand all the dimensions of your future construction, I attach a few detailed drawings. To enlarge the picture, click on it.

The drawing with the dimensions and height of the brick barbecue from the floor to the beginning of the chimney seemed to me the most interesting. Thanks to this drawing, it is possible to calculate the material necessary for its construction (provided that the presented dimensions and shape suit you).

More photos of gazebos with barbecue facilities

Since the above instruction is more related to construction, rather than the selection of interesting structures, it was decided to make a separate publication with a large number of photos of gazebos with barbecue facilities.

There you will find a large number of the most diverse options, not only with a classic barbecue made of bricks, but also a barbecue, as well as a stove complex.

Project garden gazebo with barbecue or barbecue

There are three basic materials that are ideal for building such a structure:

The main rule when choosing a project - the design should fit into the landscape of the cottage.

Before the construction of the gazebo, it is recommended to make a drawing indicating all sizes

Table: characteristics of materials for the manufacture of summer arbors

MaterialGeneral informationBenefits
WoodUniversal material for any country landscape. You can make a wooden structure in any style - from open to completely closed (winter) arbors. Wood is decorated with carvings and paints.
  • is inexpensive
  • does not require special tools for processing,
  • serves for a long time,
  • the construction process does not take much time, and you don’t need to put a lot of effort,
  • does not require the construction of a massive foundation.
Brick (stone)Material for the construction of a major structure requiring a reliable foundation. The cost of a brick is much higher, but the remaining advantages completely compensate for this.
  • refractory,
  • does not require careful care,
  • durable
  • can be used for the construction of open or closed buildings that protect against wind, rain and frost.
Metal (forged construction)A material suitable for the manufacture of a laced version of the gazebo, as there is the possibility of forging ornate structural parts. It will be made durable by primers, powder coating, special enamels and paints.
  • an exclusive option, it’s unlikely that neighbors will be able to meet anything like that,
  • allows you to make a gazebo and barbecue (barbecue) in one style direction.

It is recommended to combine the proposed materials. The positive properties of some can successfully complement the disadvantages of others.

Choosing a construction site

When housing is a place of permanent residence, it is more profitable to build a gazebo with a barbecue inside. Their varieties are very common, so it’s easy to choose the most suitable option that will harmoniously fit into the landscape design. In the variant with closed openings, it is possible to connect heating devices when the air temperature drops, which increases the frequency of use of the gazebo in the cold season. The location of the gazebo on the site should be thought out to the smallest detail. A view from the windows onto the road or wasteland is not the best option.

The design of the building must comply with the same principles not only in architecture, but also in color.

It is necessary to investigate land ownership or its plan. Close proximity to residential premises and communications gives a huge advantage. The distance from the planned place of barbecue with barbecue to the house can not be less than 8 meters in accordance with fire safety rules. It is worthwhile to think over the location in relation to neighboring areas in order not to cause discomfort to their residents. The large-sized gazebo should be erected in a sunny place of ownership, small buildings look better in the shade of trees. Approaches to the future structure need to be cleared of obstacles, paved paths.

Project development

In order for the investment in the construction of the gazebo not to be large, you should clearly think through the whole project to the smallest detail.

At the design stage, you need to solve issues such as:

  • choose the building material from which a warm gazebo will be made. Walls for the “winter” version should be made of brick or wooden timber, which will provide comfort in cold weather, since these materials have low thermal conductivity. If the financial side allows, the construction can be made from materials of a new generation. They are more durable, but at the same time more expensive,
  • choosing the most suitable roof option,
  • determine the method of pouring and the type of foundation. For closed versions of arbors, a strip or monolithic foundation of slabs is used,
  • The design idea of the gazebo can be embodied in any form. The main thing is that it fits into the landscape of the adjacent territory,

  • you should choose the type of barbecue, which will reduce the cost of building a base for it,
  • it is necessary to consider the communications that will be brought to the building under construction,
  • provide ventilation hatches and high-quality chimneys, since safety comes first,
  • the shape, size of windows, methods of glazing should also be determined at the project stage,
  • variations of indoor and outdoor lighting.

Brickwork

Brick walls have been around for decades. They are quite practical and are of high quality.According to the general architectural style, the color scheme of brick products is selected in accordance with the color scheme. It can be either natural red or white. But it is worth considering that white brick is less resistant to the conservation of thermal energy, because it cools much faster than red.

When constructing a closed gazebo made of brick, it is worth choosing a foundation of a strip type, since the frame will have quite a lot of weight.

Brick construction has the following positive aspects:

  • service life is unlimited, durable
  • you can choose any form of gazebo,
  • it is possible to combine different materials,
  • wall cladding inside and out can be varied,
  • high moisture resistance
  • an opportunity to put and fix a brazier of any kind.

The negative sides of a brick gazebo of a closed type include the following:

  • preparation of a strong, solid foundation is required,
  • The price value depends on the price of the brick and its quantity.

Arbor made of wood

Such a structure will please environmental safety. Natural colors and aroma of wood help to improve the health of the body. Wooden buildings are harmoniously combined with a country-style design. But any wooden room with barbecue inside must necessarily meet the conditions of increased fire safety.

The advantages of a gazebo made of wood are as follows:

  • uncomplicated view, harmoniously blending into the surrounding nature,
  • reduced construction time,
  • the foundation may not be solid, but lightweight,

  • environmentally friendly materials
  • healing components of certain types of wood,
  • excellent frost resistance
  • low thermal conductivity.

With many of the advantages available, there are also such shortcomings as:

  • rotting tendency in high humidity. To avoid it, you need to treat the surface with a special solution of soil coating,
  • under the influence of negative weather conditions, there may be a violation of the shape of the structure,
  • increased tendency to the occurrence of a fire source. In this case, a good ventilation installation and surface treatment of the premises with fire-fighting solutions are required.

Laying and laying the foundation

Before laying the foundation, it is necessary to prepare the site. If there is turf, it is removed along with the fertile soil layer. Germinating greens and plant roots will cause rotting with associated unpleasant odors. If the soil is sandy, the area under the structure is covered with rubble, gravel, unnecessary garbage. Tamp and densely fall asleep with a layer of sand. On clay soil it is mixed with soil and compacted. Provide free outflow of water from the walls and base.

When the project is drawn up, the drawings of the structure are completed and the site is prepared, you can begin to mark and lay the foundation for the foundation. From the correct and accurate location of the base of the gazebo depends on the stability of the future structure, the clarity and safety of its forms. The massiveness of the gazebo affects the size of the foundation. If the building is light, you can make the base in the form of pillars. This option is economical. For large weighty buildings, most often they lay a foundation of slabs, in the future it will be able to play the role of flooring. The ribbon view of the base is suitable for any gazebo. An insulated frame model most often stands on a solid foundation.

Floor creation

The basis of the future floor can be made of bars. The connection of such materials occurs with self-tapping screws and boards. Each wooden part must be impregnated with protective means against insects and decay. Coverage can be varied. Depending on the possibilities, you can choose floor tiles, concrete base, self-leveling floor or parquet version.

Convenience should be combined with practicality and ease of cleaning.

Wall and roof construction

On the contour of the gazebo angular bars are set, on which the entire mass of the built roof will be held. The walls are completely closed or with openings that will subsequently be glazed. After installing the racks, the upper strapping of the bars is performed. For a reliable connection, corners are used, they also connect the racks with the base. The next step in construction is the implementation of a mid-level strapping, if it is laid down by the project. After the construction of the walls proceed to the construction of the roof. With self-construction, a ridge or a roof with one slope is popular. Cover its surface with various materials: ondulin, tile, polycarbonate and others.

Brazier device

Before the premises are finished surfaces, you need to install a stationary barbecue. Options can be different - from brick, stone or metal. A stone or brick barbecue implies the presence of a strong base. For a gazebo made of wood, a mobile barbecue is more suitable. The installation of a brick device is best provided to an experienced craftsman. The base for the barbecue should not be less than 30 cm.

Then a double layer of brickwork is laid and a recess for solid fuels is thought out. After that, perform a niche for the place of preparation of products. Most often this is about seven rows of bricks, laid out in solid masonry. After that they put a chimney and a pipe. On top of the pipe, a special visor-protection against precipitation must be installed. A prerequisite in the gazebo with barbecue is the presence of windows. They will help to ventilate the room from gases and smoke that appear after the combustion of coal or firewood.

The portable type of barbecue is very convenient, because it can be used both in season and when traveling in nature. Such products are made of thin sheets of iron, light in weight. For quick collection, there are mounts on the sides. The negative quality of the portable barbecue is a short service life. After a year of constant use, the iron base bends and burns out. When exposed to moisture, the grill undergoes rusting, which also shortens its life and degrades the quality of work. It is necessary to store metal products in a dry room, and their timely processing and cleaning from carbon deposits should be carried out.

In addition to the grill itself, in a closed gazebo you can install a stove, smokehouse, roaster. The choice is stopped on the device that most suits the needs of residents. If the area of the room is small, you should limit yourself to a small number of structures. The location of storage systems for all necessary accessories is thought out in advance. All materials used in construction and decoration must meet quality standards for cleanliness and safety, be easy to care for, and resistant to natural phenomena. The most convenient to clean is treated metal or stone, as well as wood.

Communication and lighting

Clearly planned lighting is an important condition for the comfortable use of a covered gazebo. A sufficient number of lighting devices should be both inside and outside the building. The cooking area is highlighted brighter than the rest. Resting places can be provided with luminaires regulated by the saturation of the flow. The water supply inside the building provides comfortable conditions for cooking, cleaning devices and cleaning the premises. Decorating the gazebo inside and out is carried out in accordance with the design project.

All changes made to the site during the construction of the gazebo must be drawn up and agreed.

An overview of the finished gazebo with barbecue see below.

Table: types of country barbecue

Figurative
  1. It is made of metal.
  2. The weight of the structure allows you to easily move it.
  3. Requires a concrete pad.
Built in
  1. It is made of brick, stone and metal.
  2. It is characterized by a large mass.
  3. It requires the presence of additional components (table for cutting food, niches for drying and stacking firewood, space for dishes).
  4. A chimney is required.
  5. Requires a solid foundation.

Built-in barbecue and barbecue easily fit into an open wooden building on a summer cottage.

Brazier Safety

The main component of structures where open flame is used is their safe operation. It is recommended to pay attention to the new technology using volcanic (lava) stones, for the heating of which they use natural gas or electricity. But, here it should be noted that although the heat transfer will exceed the usual charcoal, you will not be able to get meat or vegetables with a “haze”.

The shape and size of the barbecue depends on the number of guests, most often going to the country, and personal preferences. The installation location is near the north or northeast wall of the gazebo. The chimney of the built-in barbecue can be built-in or freestanding.

If you have not previously encountered barbecue production, it is better to buy a finished product, and then install it in the gazebo.

How to build a barbecue gazebo with your own hands

The simplest is the frame construction on the column foundation. You will need:

  1. Wooden beam with a section of 100x100 mm - 5 pcs. for the base of the gazebo, 50x100 mm - for the walls and roof frame.
  2. Silicate brick - for the manufacture of pillars.
  3. Cement-sand mortar.
  4. Nails, screws.
  5. The tool is a hacksaw, a screwdriver, a shovel, an ax.

Preparatory work

A place for the gazebo is recommended to choose closer to the main house. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the wind rose on the site so that smoke from the barbecue does not fall into the room. It is also recommended to consider the option of location surrounded by trees or near a reservoir.

The layout of the area under the column foundation should be thorough

In advance, you need to determine the size of the building, and then make a drawing. Prepare all the necessary tools and materials with a stock.

The main stages of the construction of a wooden lightweight gazebo

There are standard work steps:

Marking the site is an important process, which needs to be spent a little more time to make sure the calculations are correct.

In advance, you need to select and mark up a place for a summerhouse on the site

Construction begins with the installation of the main crown and wall pillars of the summerhouse on the foundation

The floor in the gazebo with barbecue in the country can be tiled.

Combined walls look great in a wooden gazebo

The roof for the gazebo can be made of boards and roofing felt

A wooden gazebo with barbecue can be built together with a terrace

Built-in BBQ

This part of the gazebo can be made with your own hands or bought ready-made. In the first case, it is necessary to prepare the following materials:

  1. Oven heat-resistant brick for the construction of the chimney and the barbecue itself.
  2. Aerated concrete block, which is suitable for the construction of the lower furnace base, a niche for firewood.
  3. Cast iron grate. This material is durable, and also resistant to high temperatures.

Do not use ordinary steel, it does not withstand the temperature inside the barbecue oven, and its scale often gets on meat and vegetables during cooking.

When building a brazier of brick, you must clearly follow the order

Detailed instructions for the construction of a do-it-yourself grill oven

For the independent manufacture of a furnace for a barbecue arbor, you need to perform several stages of work:

First you need to build a separate base of red brick under the furnace, strengthen it with fittings. You can use a cement-sand mortar brand of at least M300. It is necessary to put waterproofing sheets on the frozen foundation.

The furnace foundation must be reinforced

It is recommended to use heat-resistant brick for masonry

It is recommended to lay out the brick in strict sequence

Brazier decoration can be done with red facing brick.

It is not necessary to stop at the construction of only the barbecue. You can always expand its functionality by adding cutting surfaces.

The gazebo can have everything for a good rest, right up to the cutting surface.

Features of caring for outdoor and indoor options with a terrace

The gazebo will last much longer if you arrange for her careful care. In particular, you need:

  • close the open gazebo for the winter with a film with ventilation holes,
  • remove leaves so that when damp, they do not provoke rotting of the building,
  • periodically apply protective equipment for wooden and metal surfaces,
  • putty the walls in places where they crack,
  • clean all objects from an open building for a cold period into the house.
